How it works

Four steps

  1. Bring it in

Bring your scrap to our Peterhead or Fraserburgh yard.

  2. Report to the office

Our team will check the required identification and payment details.

  3. We weigh and grade it

Your metal will be weighed and its type and grade confirmed.

  4. Get paid

Payment is made directly into your bank account by bank transfer.

What should I bring?

Before you travel

Selling ordinary scrap metal

  • Photo identification — a driving licence or passport.
  • Your bank details — payment is made by bank transfer, not cash.

These requirements come from Scottish scrap metal regulations, which we follow at both yards.

Bringing an end of life vehicle

Vehicles need more paperwork than ordinary scrap:

  • V5 registration document or the MOT certificate.
  • Photo ID plus a utility bill in your name.
  • Your bank details so we can pay you.

What affects the value?

Pricing

The type of metal

Copper, brass, aluminium, stainless and steel are all worth different amounts.

Its grade and condition

Clean, separated metal is usually worth more than mixed or contaminated material.

Its weight

Everything is weighed on our weighbridge, so the price you get reflects the actual weight.

The current market price

Metal prices move with the world market, so they change regularly.

We do not publish fixed prices, because they move with the market. Call the yard you plan to visit and the team will give you current guidance for what you have.

Frequently asked questions

Selling scrap

Can members of the public sell scrap?
Yes. Both yards are open to the public as well as to trade customers, six days a week.
Is a small amount worth bringing?
Small loads are welcome — a boot full of copper, brass or cable is worth bringing in. If you are unsure, call your nearest yard first.
What identification do I need?
Scottish scrap metal law requires photo identification, such as a driving licence or passport. Bring your bank details too, as payment is made by bank transfer.
How will I be paid?
Payment is made by bank transfer directly into your account, in line with Scottish scrap metal regulations. Cash payment is not available.
Do scrap prices change?
Yes. Metal prices follow the world market and change regularly, so call the yard for guidance on the day you plan to come in.
What if I do not know what type of metal I have?
That is completely normal. Call your nearest yard and describe what you have, or bring it in and the yard team will identify and grade it for you.
Can I bring an old vehicle?
Yes — cars and vans are de-polluted on site. Vehicles need extra paperwork, so see our end of life vehicle information first. End of life vehicle information
